Remember some important things about Pittenger:
When there were protests in Charlotte over the shooting of an African American man, Pittenger could not help responding from his racist perspective: “The grievance in their mind is – the animus, the anger – they hate white people because white people are successful and they’re not.” (He later had to back-step after a great public outcry but that’s his perspective.)
Pittengrer said people who lose health care coverage due to pre-existing conditions can just move to another state (i.e. I don’t care about the people I represent.)http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/05/pittenger-sick-people-who-lose-health-coverage-should-move.html
Pittenger (a big supporter of dirty energy) is a global warming denier and makes fun of people who are concerned about the environment by referring to them being like Chicken Little in the children’s book thinking the sky is falling. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/rep-robert-pittenger-in-ditching-paris-trump-ignored-the-worlds-chicken-littles/article/2625341.
Pittenger refers to “Tax Reform” (https://pittenger.house.gov/TaxReform) – remember that this means tax breaks for the wealthy. We must REFRAME this issue. Tax Investments help every American (even Pittenger). Taxes are used to build and repair roads/bridges, fund our public schools, support public colleges, build and maintain airports, maintain public services like the police and fire, etc. Do not let him get away with acting like tax breaks are for the good of anyone but the rich.
Pittenger is a fan of funneling our TAX INVESTMENT dollars out of public schoolsinto private schools through “Increases opportunity for low-income students by allowing Title I funds to follow the student to the traditional public or charter school of their parents’ choice.” https://pittenger.house.gov/Education – This is another Tea Party approach to destroying our public schools. As more and more TAX INVESTMENT money is being taken away from public schools – the schools decrease in their effectiveness – so then the Tea Party points to how poorly the schools are doing while they drain the funds. This idea that there should be a choice is a trick pulled on the American people to defund public schools so the rich can have tax dollars used to fund their children’s private school education. Private schools are a choice for the rich and they have that choice – but we should not have to pay for it. The answer is to increase funding to public schools not decrease it by pretending it is about choice. Remember: NC teachers have one of the lowest pay levels in the nation. We must support our public schools and those dedicated teachers.
