Right To Vote

June 12, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

A House Bill 1092 has been introduced in the N.C. that would make voter identification part of the state constitution. We the people see this bill another attempt to suppress ballot access for people of color, the poor, women, and college students. Please join us for a peaceful rally and press conference to oppose HB 1092. Speakers list will be updated in few days.

HB 1092, filed Thursday by Speaker Tim Moore, a Cleveland County Republican, would allow voters to decide in a November referendum whether photo ID should be required to cast a ballot. The bill is co-sponsored by Republicans David Lewis, Michele Presnell and John Sauls.

North Carolina is one of 18 states that doesn’t require voter ID in any form and the only one in the Southeast. Civil rights and voter advocacy groups oppose voter ID as a solution in search of a problem given that voter fraud is rare in North Carolina and nationally. A state voter ID law passed in 2013 was struck down in court after a legal challenge by the state NAACP. In NC NAACP v. McCrory, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals found the Republican-sponsored bill “target[ed] African-Americans with almost surgical precision” and enacted with “discriminatory intent.”

*This is a peaceful non violent event and people of all color, ethnicity, race, religion, non religious groups, sexual orientation and gender are encouraged to attend.
*No bull horns are allowed. No masks are allowed. No signs with sticks are allowed. No posters or banners with profanity and/or offensive language is allowed. Any public disturbance and/or any attempt to disrupt this event will be reported to the law enforcement.
