Please join us for an interactive discussion on recent voting trends with Dr. Marilynn Baker. She has spent the last several years diving into hard voting data to find out what trends she could uncover relating to voting history and what has happened to NC Democrats. Using this information she has identified the need to connect with Swing Voters, and talks about how messaging will play a key role in the upcoming elections.
Some background on Dr Baker:
Marilynn W. Baker, PhD, has extensive experience and training in strategic analysis and strategy development. She has a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a research focus on destructive leaders’ behaviors and strategies. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA with a concentration in Finance. She is a retired Senior Lecturer from UNCG where she taught courses in Strategy in the Bryan School of Business and Economics.
Prior to her career in academia, Dr. Baker worked as an auditor for a global CPA firm. However, she spent most of her career in industry with RJR and its various subsidiaries, beginning as an accountant and ending as the Senior Director of Competitive Intelligence in Geneva, Switzerland. While in Geneva, she led a multi-national, cross-functional team to develop the Marketing Intelligence and Strategic Planning System for RJR International.
In the course of conducting research for her dissertation, Dr. Baker found disturbing ties between the GOP and 16 of 20 destructive executive leaders she examined. In contrast, she found that 8 of the 10 exemplary executives had ties to the Democratic party. A few years later, she became actively involved in politics and the Democratic Party because of her passion for public education and budget cuts for education in the Republican controlled NC General Assembly.
Dr. Baker is a former Democratic candidate in the strongly gerrymandered district for NC State House 74 and a former Forsyth County Democratic Party officer (First Vice Chair). She has also helped with the campaigns of other Forsyth County candidates. Dr. Baker’s goal is to use her research, strategic analysis and strategy development skills to help Democrats and Progressives win more seats in Local, State, and Federal races, and to help build bridges across the political divide.
