In July, Republicans in the Senate, after multiple attempts failed to pass a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and to make devastating changes to Medicaid that would have resulted in permanent cuts that would have hurt people of all ages. Seniors who depend on Medicaid for nursing home and for in-home care services that give them the freedom to live at home with dignity and independence would have been disproportionately hurt by the cuts.
Stopping the cuts and caps in Medicaid was a huge victory for seniors, people with disabilities, their families and for their caregivers that provide these services. But the fight isn’t over yet. Even deeper cuts to Medicaid have been proposed in the Republican FY2018 Budget Resolution which would slash Medicaid by $1.5 trillion over the next ten years, once again to pay for billions in tax breaks to the rich and corporations.
On August 9th, HCAN will join Caring Across Generations to lift up the voices of seniors and of the caregivers who provide critical services funded by Medicaid to send Republicans a message once again: Medicaid Not Millionaires!
